IES is stands for Indian Engineering Services
This exam conducted by the Union Public Services Commission.
Union Government of India appoints IES officers which are based on the recommendations made by the UPSC.

I want to tell you that a candidate who is not graduate cannot appear for IES exam, I am giving you eligibility of IES exam:

Eligibility Criteria:
Candidate must be graduate in engineering with a recognized university.
An M.Sc degree holder with the subject of Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering can also apply for this exam.

A candidate who is an Indian citizen can apply for this exam.
A Tibetan refugee candidate who is living in India from January 1st, 1962 can also apply for this exam.

Age criteria:
Student age must be minimum 21 years or maximum 30 years.

Physical standards:
A candidate who is applying for this exam he/she must be physically and mentally fit.

I am giving you the 2014 syllabus of this exam by this you can get idea of studies:

A) ENGLISH AND GENERAL STUDIES SYLLABUS FOR IES 2014:
The English section in IES 2014 exam is basically designed is such a manner that it is able to test the candidates knowledge about the subject and candidates proficiency in the subject.

2. Jumbled Sentence
3. Fill in the blanks
4. Sentence Correction
5. Finding errors and omittions
6. Cohesion in extended text etc.
Where as, the General awareness sections deals with the day to day affairs of the country. This section syllabus cannot be defined OR prescribed as it is something with the candidates ability of reading and in this case the more he/she reads the more chances of the candidates to perform well in the particular section.
B) CIVIL ENGINEERING SYLLABUS OF IES 2014:

Paper I
1. BUILDING MATERIALS
Timber: Different types and species of structural timber, density-moisture relationship, strength in different directions, defects, influence of defects on permissible stress, preservation, dry and wet rots, codal provisions for design, Plywood.
Bricks: Types, Indian Standard classification, absorption, saturation factor, strength in masonry, influence of morter strength on masonry strength.
Cement: Compounds of, different types, setting times, strength.
Cement Mortar: Ingredients, proportions, water demand, mortars for plastering and masonry.
Concrete: Importance of W/C Ratio, Strength, ingredients including admixtures, workability, testing for strength, elasticity, non-destructive testing, mix design methods.

2. SOLID MECHANICS
Elastic constants, stress, plane stress, Mohr s circle of stress, strains, plane strain, Mohr s circle of strain, combined stress; Elastic theories of failure; Simple bending, shear; Torsion of circular and rectangular sections and simple members.

3. STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS
Analysis of determinate structures – different methods including graphical methods.
Analysis of indeterminate skeletal frames – moment distribution, slope-deflection, stiffness and force methods, energy methods, Muller-Breslau principle and application.
Plastic analysis of indeterminate beams and simple frames – shape factors.

4. DESIGN OF STEEL STRUCTURES
Principles of working stress method. Design of connections, simple members, Built-up sections and frames, Design of Industrial roofs. Principles of ultimate load design. Design of simple members and frames.

5. DESIGN OF CONCRETE AND MASONRY STRUCTURES
Limit state design for bending, shear, axial compression and combined forces. Codal provisions for slabs, beams, walls and footings. Working stress method of design of R.C. members.
Principles of prestressed concrete design, materials, methods of prestressing, losses. Design of simple members and determinate structures. Introductions to prestressing of indeterminate structures.
Design of brick masonry as per I.S. Codes.

IES exam eligibility

I have done B.Tech in electronics and instrumentation branch and I want to apply for IES exam so can I eligible for it?

IES Stands for Indian Engineering Service examination
It is conducted by Union Public Service Commission every year

Eligibility Criteria:
Candidate must have completed engineering degree with any one of the stream:
Mechanical engineering
Civil engineering
Electrical engineering
Electronics and telecommunication engineering

M.Sc. degree or equivalent with
Wireless Communication,
Electronics,
Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject is also applicable for certain posts.

Final year student can also apply for IES exam

Age limit:
Age should be between 21 yrs to 30 yrs.

Age relaxation:
For SC/ST 5 years
For OBC 3 years
For PWD 10 years
For Ex-Servicemen 5 years

Selection Procedure:
Written Test
Personality Test
