Re: CLAT Eligibility Details Eligibility: Under-Graduate Programmes: Applicant must have passed 10+2 Examination or equivalent with more than 45% marks for General and 40% marks for SC/ST* and Persons with Disability. Age: Applicant’s age should be less than 20 in case of General and 22 in case of SC/ST. Post-graduate Programme: Applicants must have passed the LL.B/B.L. Degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized University with not less than 55% marks in aggregate. Each question carries one mark. The duration of the examination is of two hours. Out of the 200 marks, the subject areas with weightage are as the following: English including comprehension – 40 marks; General knowledge and current affairs – 50 marks; Elementary mathematics – 20 marks; Legal aptitude – 50 marks Logical reasoning – 40 marks. There is the provision of negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. There is no fix syllabus for CLAT examination, however students need to follow the below criteria for preparing the examination. Syllabus: English Including Comprehension This subject is set to test the candidate’s proficiency in English and understanding the comprehension and its theme. In comprehension section, the candidate requires to answer the questions based on passage theme and words. In grammar section will be questioned on correction of incorrect grammar sentences including active and passive voice, article, preposition, verbs formation & usage, concord, modals, Idioms and phrases, antonyms, synonyms, reading comprehension, sentence sequencing, spotting error and using appropriate word. General Knowledge and Current Affairs In this section, the candidates will be tested on their knowledge of current affairs, static general knowledge and general awareness. The question will be asked about the India and word geography & history, freedom struggles, Indian economy, Indian constitution, national insignia, international organizations, basis general knowledge & general science, chemistry, physics, biology and computers. The questions based on current affairs will be picked probably through the last 1 to 2 years. Elementary Mathematics The syllabus in the math section is up to 10th class. The candidates will be asked questions on their knowledge of elementary mathematics, covering the topics like LCM, HCF, numbers, simplification, decimal fraction, average, square & cube roots, problems on number and age, profit & loss, percentage, ratio & proportion, time & work, chain rule, time & distance, pipe & cistern, boats & streams, simple & compound interest, clock & calendars, volume & surface area, combinations and problem on trains.. Legal Aptitude In this section of CLAT syllabus, the candidates will be tested on their interest towards law studies, problem solving ability and research aptitude. All questions will be framed as legal propositions with the set of facts. The candidates will have to assume the truth and answer the questions accordingly. There are a wide variety of questions from legal studies like international law, criminal law, Indian constitution, legal terms, legal maxims, family law, contracts and torts. Logical & Critical Reasoning In this section, the pattern will check the ability of candidates to identify patterns, rectify illogical arguments and logical links. There are a wide variety of reasoning questions like classification, analog, series completion, logical diagram, direction sense, puzzle test, blood relation, inserting the missing character, arithmetical reasoning, the alphabet test, mathematical operation, assumptions, basic of logic, effect & syllogisms and evaluating inferences. |
