UPSC stands for Union Public Service Commission.
SSC Exams stands for Staff Selection Commission.

UPSC
The major roles of the commission are to recruit the officers/students under the Union/Central Govt.

It recruits for gazetted posts.

UPSC is responsible to recruit the qualified candidates into Indian Civil Services.

You need to be a graduate in any discipline to apply for these exams.

And you need to clear many rounds to get any post of UPSC.

They are like Prelims, Mains, Interview, Physical Test/Medical Test, etc,.

Posts through UPSC are :

Indian Administrative Service

India Foreign Service

Indian Police Service

Indian Audit and Accounts Service

Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise)

Indian Defence Accounts Service

Indian Revenue Service (I.T.)

SSC
SSC the major roles of the commission are to recruit the candidates for central govt. departments.

SSC recruits for non-gazetted posts.

The SSC conducts exams for Graduates and as well as 10+2 candidates also.

There will be a written test followed by an Interview.

Exams under SSC are:

Assistants in Ministries/Departments, Attached and Subordinate office of the Govt. of India.

Inspectors of Central Excise & Customs.

Inspectors of Income Tax.

Preventive Officers in Customs.

Examiner in Customs.

Sub-Inspectors in Delhi Police & CBI.

Sub-Inspectors in BSF, CRPF, ITBP and CISF.

Divisional Accountant, Jr. Accountant, Auditor & UDCs in various offices of Govt. of India.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and staff selection commission (SSC) both are the part of the government of India but functionally both tasks are different.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) takes up recruitment at the top level posts like Civil Services - Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Audit & Accounts Service, Indian Revenue Service and Indian Defence Accounts Service.
