Crime Scene & Forensic Science

Bloodstain Evidence 1
The course, one learns how to identify various stains and spatters to determine if the stains are in fact blood. One observes how blood reacts to motion and force and learn how to document bloodstains and competently testify about the significance of the stains as evidence.


Bloodstain Evidence 2
It provides an updated and in-depth review of bloodstain pattern identification and analysis. The course also enhances one’s proficiency in documentation and reconstruction techniques so that bloodstains can be correlated with patterns and body trauma.


Crime Scene Technology 1
It explores the fundamentals of evidence evaluation and processing. Students use the latest techniques of evidence development and enhancement in the application of sensitivity and specificity, and examine the different techniques used to gain the most from available evidence.


Crime Scene Technology 2
This hands-on course on the development and enhancement of techniques for physical evidence collection explores a variety of applications and applied methods. One experiments with many types of equipment and chemicals to determine the most effective application for a given situation.


Crime Scene Technology 3
The course features chemical and light-source application and enhancement techniques, as well as the methodologies and procedures used in documentation and preservation of trace evidence. By experimenting with complex circumstances, students obtain experience in a true chronology of processing techniques and applications used in the field and the laboratory.


Death Investigation
It covers all facets of violent death investigation, including duties and responsibilities of the first responder, investigation at the scene, sketching and photographing the crime scene, estimating time of death, identifying the victim and determining the mode of death.


Digital Forensic Photography 1
It covers many of the foundational principles of photography while delving into digital applications in the forensic field. One receives instruction in the digital format, camera operation, file types, archiving, lighting techniques, and the control and printing of digital images. Participants also gain working knowledge in the digital evidence process and preparing for testimony.


Digital Forensic Photography 2: Night Operations
One learns to adjust for variables for real-life settings, including calculating low-light-level exposures, multiple flash exposures, and "painting with light" or combination exposures. 2-day course is held in the late afternoon and evening hours intended to ensure variations of light including darkness.
Prerequisite: Digital Forensic Photography.


Forensic Art Techniques: Mastering Composite Drawing
It features hands-on practice sketching composites and performing other relevant drawing exercises. Unlike other forensic art courses, this course demonstrates how to use an opaque projector and freestanding easel instead of a table top. Topics covered include facial anatomy, biological variations of race, age and gender and the use of courtroom testimony.


Fracture Match Identification
This three-day course presents the scientific basis for fracture match identification and is designed for criminalists who are actively pursuing or plan to pursue court qualification for testifying as to fracture match identifications.
