The mission of the Center for Africana Studies at Central Connecticut State University is to develop and encourage the study and teaching about Africa, African Americans, and people of African descent throughout the Diaspora.

The Center emphasizes the study and the cultures of African peoples both in the Continent of Africa and throughout the world.

Further, the Center offer various programs including lectures, conferences, student activities etc. that create a better understanding of African peoples in the wider social, economic, and political systems.

Programs-

The African Studies program publishes a quarterly newsletter, AfricaUpdate, which is available on-line.

There is also an active African Studies Student Club, which helps students visit museums, attend conferences, and participate in Africa-related campus activities.

The International Area Studies Program offers a variety of Africa-related degrees:

BA & BS Major, International Studies, African Studies specialization

BA & BS Concentration in African Studies

MS Major in International Affairs with a specialization in African Studies
