UPSC Special Class Railway Apprentices SCRA is a recruitment examination conducted on a national level to select student for recruitment under Indian Railways.

Aspirants should be physically fit and according to physical standards for admission to Special Class Railway Apprentice examination.

The exam will be conducted in two stages written test and personality test. The written test will consist of three papers of multiple type questions covering topics from General Knowledge, English Language to Mathematics, Psychological test, Physics and Chemistry.

Age Limitation:

SCRA Age Limit of aspirants should not be below 17 years and must not above 21 years.

Age Relaxation:

For SC/ST candidates: 5 years

For OBC candidates: 3 years

Age relaxable for 3 years in case of defence services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or disturbed area.

5 years Age relaxable for Ex-service men including commissioned officers and ECOs/SSCOs

Age relaxation in case of ECOs /SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of 5 years of military service: 5 years

Age relaxation for blind, deaf, mute and orthopaedically handicapped candidates: 10 years

Age relaxation if a candidate had ordinaly been domiciled in the state of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 01-01-1980 to 31-12-1989: 5 years.

The Exam for recruitment of Special Class Railway Apprentice/ UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) SCRA has been scrapped with immediate effect from 2016.

UPSC SCRA Eligibility Criteria

Nationality
One must be either:
Indian citizen or
Nepalese citizen or
Bhutanese citizen or
A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 to permanently settle in India or
A person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, and Sri-Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.
All the candidates who belong to any category except Indian citizen must produce a certificate of eligibility that has been issued by the Government of India.

Age Limit
Candidate must be in the age group of 17 to 21 years.
Upper age relaxation is given to the candidates from reserved categories.
Age relaxation norms are as follows:
Scheduled caste or Scheduled tribe up to 5 years
Other backward classes up to 3 years
State of Jammu & Kashmir (Domiciled during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to 31st December, 1989: up to 5 years.
Defense services personnel (disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof): up to 5 years.

Educational Qualification
One must have at least any one of the following educational qualification:

1st or 2nd division, the Higher 2ndary (12 years) Exam under 10 plus 2 pattern of School Education with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the exam.

Passed the 1st year Exam under 3 year degree course of a university or the 1st exam of 3 year diploma course in Rural Service of the National Council for Rural Higher Education or 3rd year Exam for promotion to the 4th year of 4 year B.A./B.Sc. (Evening College) Course of the Madras University with Mathematics and minimum1 of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the exam provided that before joining the degree/diploma course he passed the Higher secondary exam or the Pre-University or equivalent exam in the 1st or 2nd division.

1st or 2nd division, in the Intermediate or an equivalent Exam of a University or Board approved by the Government of India with Mathematics and at least one of Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination.

Graduates with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as their degree subjects

Passed the 1st year exam under 5 years Engineering Degree Course of a University, provided that before joining the Degree Course, one has passed the Higher secondary Exam or pre-University or equivalent exam in the 1st or 2nd division.

Passed the 1st year Exam of 5 year Engineering Degree Course in the 1st or 2nd division may also apply provided the 1st year Exam is conducted by a University.

Passed the 1st/2nd year exam under 3-years degree course in the 1st or 2nd division with Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry as subjects of the exam, provided the 1st/2nd year exam is conducted by a University.

Passed in the 1st or 2nd division the Pre-Engineering Exam of a University, approved by the Government of India

Passed in the 1st or 2nd division the Pre-Professional/Pre-Technological Exam of any Indian University or a recognized Board, with Mathematics and at least, one of Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the exam conducted 1year after the Higher secondary or Pre-University stage

Passed in the 1st or 2nd division the Pre-Degree Exam of the Universities of Kerala and Calicut with Mathematics and at least one of Physics and Chemistry as subjects of exam
