Punjab Civil Services (Judicial) Exam or PCS (Judicial) Exam is conducted by Punjab Public Service Commission for the recruitment of Civil Judge (Junior Division)-cum-Judicial Magistrate

1. Educational Qualification

Degree of Bachelor of Laws through which a candidate to be enrolled as an Advocate under the Advocate Act, 1961, and the rules made there under, from a University established by the law and approved/recognized by the Bar Council of India.

2. Age

The candidate should be between 21 to 37 years.

For Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes of all States and Backward Classes of Punjab only upper age shall be up to 42 years.

It is up to 47 years for all States/ Central Government employees.

It is up to 42 years for Widows, Divorcees and certain other categories of Women.

It is up to 47 years for Physically Handicapped Persons who have domicile of Punjab


3. Nationality

Applicant must be
Citizen of India or Nepal, or Bhutan or Tibetan Refugee who came to India, before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly-Tranganyika and Zanzibar) Zabia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia to settle down in India permanently.

Judicial Services Examination or the PCS (J)-Provincial Civil Service-Judicial Examination which they are commonly referred to, are entry-level exams for law graduates to become members of the subordinate judiciary.

The state governments under the supervision of the respective high courts appoint members of the lower judiciary based on the competitive examination.


UP PCS J Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be an Indian citizen.

Applicants must have the domicile of Utter Pradesh to get the reservation and the relaxation

Academic Qualification –

One must have a degree in Laws [Bachelor of Laws] of any recognized University. Along with a degree in laws, applicant should be an Advocate registered under the provisions of the Advocate Act, 1961 or a member faculty of Advocates in Scotland or a Barrister of Northern Ireland or England and is eligible to practice in the Court or Courts subordinate. Also, applicant must have a thorough knowledge of Hindi in Devnagri Script.


Age Limits –

One should be 22 years old but not have attained an age of 35 years. However, as per rules of Government, relaxation in upper age limit will be applicable for different categories candidates.


UP PCSJ Exam Pattern

There will be three stages of the examination i.e. Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Viva-voce (Personality Test).


Details about the Pre exam

There will be two question papers in the preliminary examination.
Each question paper will be 150 marks.
The time duration of the question papers will be 2 hours.
The first question paper will be of general awareness.
The second question paper will be Law.
The question papers will be of objective nature.


Details about the Main exam

The second stage of the examination will be the Main exam.

There will be 5 question papers in the main examination.
All the question papers will be of descriptive nature.
The question paper will be of 200 marks.
The first question paper will be of General Knowledge.
The second question paper will be of language.
The third question paper will be of ‘substantive law’.
The fourth question paper will be of ‘Procedure and Evidence’.
‘Penal, Revenue and Local Laws’ will be the part of the fifth question paper.


UP PCSJ Interview

There is no specific pattern and syllabus of the interview; however, candidates need to have the knowledge of the law in deep. The interview will be of 100 marks.
