Re: Pacific University Kindergarten
The ELC (Early Learning Community) Kindergarten environment, curriculum, and teaching methods emphasize immersive literacy, science and numeracy experiences, a low student to teacher ratio, and a nurturing atmosphere. Modelling best practices in early education, its highly qualified, creative teachers support and challenge each student individually, while growing a community where each person is valued and a love of learning is celebrated every day. At ELC, young children encounter a richly stimulating learning environment and nurturing, creative teachers who guide them in their exploration of the world. It offers active, authentic learning experiences, and engaging materials and beautiful spaces. Its school culture values the contribution of each individual child to the community while cultivating a sense of social awareness and belonging for all. ELC Program Elements Each day, children spend time in at least four different learning environments: The Classroom Home, where children begin and end their day, connect with their immediate community of classmates and teacher, and engage in focused learning activities The Atelier: Art Studio & Science Area, where children encounter physical and natural sciences and experience all manner of visual arts The Creative Exploration Area, where children choose from a rich array of materials that afford constructive learning opportunities in literacy, numeracy, dramatic play and fine motor coordination The Piazza, also known as the Outdoor Play Area, where children engage in large locomotor activities, games and social interaction between all classrooms. They also spend time observing and investigating nature, enjoying fresh air, sunshine and rain.
