UPSC Conducts written examination every year for the Indian Police Services (IPS) Officer Eligibility criteria for IPS Officer -You must possess a degree from an Indian University or an equivalent qualification. -You must have attained the age of 21 years on 1st August of the year of examination and must not have attained 30 years of age on that date. - Age limit will be relaxed by 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates. - Upper age limit is also relaxed in favour of Defense Services Personnel. - You must be a citizen of India. Process to become an IPS officer To become an IPS officer one has to follow the below given steps: Step 1 You have to obtain your “Application Form” along with “Information Brochure” from any of the “Head Post Offices or Post Offices” and sent the dually filled Application form to: The Secretary Union Public Service Commission Dholpur House New Delhi - 110011. Step 2 You have to appear in “Preliminary Exam” which is held in the month of May/June. Exam is consists of two papers. Paper 1 Current events of national and international importance History of India and Indian national movement Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc. Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc. General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change-that do not require subject specialization General science. 200 marks Paper 2 Comprehension Interpersonal skills including communication skills Logical reasoning and analytical ability Decision making and problem solving General mental ability Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. –Class X level) English language comprehension skills (Class X level) 200 marks Optional subject for the second paper may be chosen from the following given subjects: 1 Agriculture 2 Animal Husbandry and veterinary science 3 Botany 4 Chemistry 5 Civil Engineering 6 Commerce 7 Economics 8 Electrical Engineering 9 Geography 10 Geology 11 Indian History 12 Law 13 Mathematics 14 Mechanical Engineering 15 Philosophy 16 Physics 17 Political Science 18 Psychology 19 Public Administration 20 Sociology 21 Statistics 22 Zoology Step 3 Candidates who will qualify in the “Preliminary examination” have to appear in final exam which is normally held in the month of October. Exam Pattern: Essay type Indian Language Qualifying Paper 300 English Qualifying Paper 300 General Essay Type Paper 200 General Studies Papers 300 Optional Subjects Papers 300 Step 4 Once you have qualified final examination then you have to appear in personal interview to test your personality and mental ability. |
