Essential Qualification for Indian Forest Service
Can you tell me about the essential qualification required for applying for the post of IFS or Indian Forest Service Examination as I want to check if I am eligible for it or not?

Generally the notification of examination of IFS or Indian Forest Service Examination announced in the month of February/March every year and the exam for the purpose is conducted in July. Essential Qualification Age-limits 21-30 years on 1st July of the year of exam Definite categories of persons are eligible for age relaxation. Educational Qualification A Bachelor degree with minimum one of the subjects namely, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor degree in Agriculture or Forestry or Engineering of a recognized university or equivalent. Those appearing at the degree exam are also eligible to apply. Scheme of Examination I. Written Examination - Conventional (essay) type Paper I - General English 300 Marks Paper II - General Knowledge 300 Marks Paper III, IV, V & VI - Any two subjects to be selected from the list of optional subjects set out below. Each subject will have two papers. 200 Marks for each paper Total marks for written examination 1400 Marks Interview for Personality Test 300 Marks List of Optional Subjects Agriculture Agricultural Engineering Animal Husbandary & Veterinary Science Botany Chemistry Chemical Engineering Civil Engineering Forestry Geology Mathematics Mechanical Engineering Physics Statistics Zoology General English and General Knowledge The standard level of papers in General English and General Knowledge are designed for a Science or Engineering graduate of an Indian University. The English paper consists of an essay and passages to write summary. Other questions are designed to test general understanding of English and everyday use of words. Optional Subjects The standard level and syllabus for optional subject papers is based on the Bachelors Degree (with Honours). There is no practical exam in any of the subjects. There are 8 questions in each subject paper carrying equal marks. All questions carry equal marks. Each paper is divided into two parts, Part A and Part B, each containing 4 questions. Out of 8 questions, 5 questions are to be attempted. 1 question in each part will be compulsory. One is required to answer 3 more questions out of the remaining 6 questions, taking at least one question from each Part. Thus, minimum 2 questions are attempted from each Part plus one more. Personaly Test The candidates are interviewed by a Board of competent and unbiased observers. The record of candidate career is present before the interviewers. |
