Presidency University is situated in Kolkata. It was founded in 1817 but granted full university status in 2010. It is one of the first institutes of Western-type higher education in Asia. It was taken over the British Government in 1855 as the College of the Bengal Presidency and placed in 1857 under the newly founded Calcutta University. Presidency University offers Economics and Statistics both subjects. The Department of Statistics is one of the oldest departments in the country and perhaps also in Asia. It has the capacity of 20 seats. The thrust areas of the Department of Economics are Microeconomic and Macroeconomic Theory, Statistics and Econometrics, Mathematical Economics and Finance – both corporate and international. Here I am giving it to you: For taking admission into these courses candidate will be allowed to apply for at most three Honours subjects (excluding English and Mathematics). Candidates who are Eligible, has appear for an Admission Test for each Honours subject. The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of the aggregate of the percentage of aggregate (of top four subjects) marks obtained in the last public examination and the marks obtained in the respective admission test. Candidate has to secure at least 20 marks or 40% of the highest marks in the admission test. The SC/ST and the OBCA/OBCB candidates will have to get 75% and 90% of the total marks. The final admission will be offered strictly on merit, according to the position in the merit list. Candidates qualified for more than one subject will be allowed to express their choice during counselling session on the date of admission.
