M.Phil. Sociology is a course of one Academic session.

It will carry total 500 marks.

Distribution of Marks will be as below :

1. Sociological Theoretical Perspective 100 Marks
2. Sociological Research and Statistics 100 Marks
3. Specialization (Optional Paper) 100 Marks
(Student has to select any one paper among 6 Globalization and Society, Criminology and Penology, Sociology of Development, Rural Society in India, Urban Society in India, Social Demography). Student may opt any one Paper from above.
4. Research Paper 50 Marks
5. Viva-Voce 50 Marks
6. Dissertation 100 Marks
Total Marks 500 Mark

Sociological Theoretical Perspective

Unit – I
Relationship between Sociological Theory and Research. Difference between Sociological Theory and Perspective. Approach and Perspective.

Unit – II
Structuration Perspective : Anthony Giddens, Critical School : J. Habbermas – communicative Action, Legitimation Crisis in Society, Modernity – an incomplete project. Phenomenology-Edmond Husserl, Alfred Schutz. Ethnomelhodology – Garfinkel.
