As you are asking for Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith (MGKVP) M.SC Chemistry program syllabus so on your demand I am providing same : Semester-I Paper-I Inorganic Chemistry I UNIT-I: Symmetry and Group Theory in ChemistrySymmetry elements and symmetry operation, definitions of groups, subgroups, relation betweenorders of a finite group and its subgroup. Conjugacy relation and classes. Point symmetry group.Schonflies symbols, representation of groups by matrics (representation of the Cn, Cnv, Cnh,Dnh etc groups to be worked out explicitly). Character of a representation. Character tables andtheir use in spectroscopy. UNIT-II: Stereochemistry and Bonding in Main Group CompoundsVSEEPR, Walsh diagrams (tri and penta-atomic Molecules), dπ-pπ bonds, bent rule andenergetics of hybridization, some simple reactions of covalently bonded molecules. UNIT-III: Metal-Ligand Equilibria in SolutionStepwise and overall formation constants and their interaction, trends in stepwise constants,factors affecting the stability of metal complexes with reference to the nature of metal ion andligand, chelate effect and its thermodynamic origin, determination of binary formation constantsby pH metry and spectrophotometry.
