Re: Indian Forest Service Officers Benefits

According to me the job of the Indian forest officer is not so risky.
I am giving you the following details by which you have idea about the Indian Forest service Officer.

Life of a Indian Forest Service Officer
IFS officer is same like other All India Service officers. the officers have same salary , perks, benefits like them
IFS means Forest service but that does not mean they have to stay through out their life in forests only.

they may be posted in different places on the basis of their cadre.
If u become DFO you will head a division which a town. But you will visit forests once a while only for supervision. T
his DFO post you will get after 5-6 years of your joining. And the above cadres you obviously stay very close to cities only.
You may also be posted in social forestry, urban forestry wings where you will stay in cities.

How to become a Indian Forest Officer:
for the post of IFS officer you may give the Indian Forest Service examination which is conducted annually by the Union Public Service Commission.

Examination Criteria:
The examination is open to graduates in any science or engineering discipline and has a three-stage selection process spanning nearly seven months.
Stage one : All applicants have to take an objective type examination called the Preliminary Examination which is the same as that of the Civil Services Examination. It consists of two papers, where they are tested on areas such as economics, politics, history, geography, environment, awareness of current affairs, reading comprehension, logical reasoning, basic numeracy skills, inter-personal skills and decision making. Generally the qualifying cut-off marks of preliminary exam required to sit for IFS main examination is greater than that required to sit for Civil Services main examination. The marks of Preliminary Examination is not counted in making final overall merit.
Stage two : Around 1400 candidates are selected for the Main Examination which consists of six descriptive papers. Each candidate has to select two optional subject (two papers each) from among the subjects allowed by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and has to take one General Studies paper and an English language paper.

Stage three : Around 230 candidates securing highest marks in the Main Examination are called for the interview conducted by UPSC. As per the notification published by UPSC:-

The interview board will assess the intellectual curiosity, critical powers of observation and assimilation, balance of judgment and alertness of mind, initiative, tact, capacity for leadership; the ability for social cohesion, mental and physical energy and powers of practical application and integrity of character of each candidate. In addition to which, qualities such as topographical sense, love for out-door life and the desire to explore unknown and out of way places is also assessed[
.
Interview or personality assessment is followed by a medical checkup and a physical test which requires all male candidates to complete a 25 km walk/run in under 4 hours. For ladies the distance is reduced to 14 km. The test is usually conducted at the National Zoological Park Delhi.
After selection for the IFS, candidates are allocated state cadres.
There is one cadre for each Indian state, with the exception of three joint cadres:

Assam-Meghalaya,
Manipur-Tripura,
Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories (AGMUT). Two-thirds of the strength of every cadre is filled directly by IFS officers and the remaining are promoted from the respective states cadre officers.

Re: Indian Forest Service Officers Benefits

An IFS (Indian Forest Service) Officer’s overall salary would be around 60000 INR including all the perks and allowances. This amount varies again depending on the country one is posted.

But, it is the Special Foreign Allowance that makes a big difference in the salary like if one is assigned at the Indian Embassy in the USA then one is eligible to get around 2.40 Lakhs per month as Special Foreign Allowance.

The foreign allowance given to an Indian Foreign Service officer varies with the place one is posted to. This allowance increases with the rise in the grade and level.

Salary of Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Officer as per Grade

Junior Time Scale
Officers at this level join as Under Secretary and the salary is around 8000 –14000 INR

Senior Time Scale
An officer at this level joins as Under Secretary and the salary is around 10, 650 -16000 INR

Junior Administrative Scale
An officer at this level joins as Deputy Secretary and the salary is around 12, 750 –17000 INR

Selection Grade
An officer at this level joins as Counsellor Director and the salary is around 15, 100 –18500 INR

Senior Administrative Scale
An officer at this level joins as Joint Secretary and the salary is around 18, 400 –22, 500 INR

High Commissioner / Ambassador
An officer at this level join as Foreign Secretary and the salary is 26, 000 INR which is fixed with no grade pay.

The DA currently is around 80% and if projected to be around 90% of Basic Pay then the net salary of an IFS Officer of various grades would be as given below:

Junior Scale – A newly posted officer pay scale would be
Pay Band Rs 15,600 –39,100 INR
Grade Pay – 5400 INR

Grade Pay: 7,600INR

iii) Selection Grade
Pay Band: 37,400 – 67,000 INR

Super Time Scale– It would take about 20 years for an officer to reach this grade.
Pay Band: 37,40 ade0 –67,000 INR
Grade Pay: 10,000 INR

Above Super Time Scale– Again Above Super Time Scale is divided into 3 major categories i.e.
i) The Super Super Scale: 37,400 –67,000 INR
Grade Pay – 12,000 INR
