Indian Forest Services exam (IFS Exam) is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruiting officers for the Indian Forest Service.

Eligibility;
A candidate must be either:


(a) A citizen of India, or
(b) A subject of Nepal, or
(c) A subject of Bhutan, or
(d) A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Srilanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Educational qualification:
Candidates must have completed their graduation from recognized university.

Applicants should have passed Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

Age limit;
Applicants must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years

Number of Attempts:
Maximum of 4 attempts are allowed at the IFS Examination. No restriction for SC/ST candidates and 07 attempts for OBC Candidates.

IFS Exam Pattern

The written examination consisting of the following papers:

i) Compulsory Papers (Both)

Paper I General English 300 marks
Paper II General Knowledge 300 marks

ii) Optional Papers ( Two subjects with two papers each)

Paper III First optional Subject Paper -1 200
Paper IV First optional Subject Paper -2 200
Paper V Second optional Subject Paper -1 200
Paper VI Second optional Subject Paper -2 200

Total Marks = (300+300+4x200=800)=1400

Interview for Personality Test of such candidates as may be called by the Commission– Maximum marks : 300

Indian Forest Service (IFS or IFoS) is one of the prestigious All India Services conducted once every year by Union Public Service Commission of the Government of India.

Nationality

One must be one of either for Indian Forest Service:


(a) A citizen of India
(b) or a subject of Nepal
(c) or a subject of Bhutan
(d) or a Tibetan refugee who has come to India before the date of 1st January 1962 with the intention of living in India permanently.
(e) or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of living in India permanently.

In case if an aspirant is found to be any out of belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) will be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility will be issued by the Government of India.



Age Limit

One must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1st August of the respective year of Preliminary Exam.

But the upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable –

Up to a maximum of 5 years if one belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe.

Up to a maximum of 3 years if one belongs to Other Backward Classes who is eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates

Up to a maximum of 3 years in the case of Defence Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof:

Up to a maximum of 5 years for ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/ SSCOs who have rendered at least 5 years Military Service as on 1st August, and have been released (i) on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within 1 year from 1st August) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency, or (ii) on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service, or (iii) on invalidment.

Up to a maximum of 5 years for ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of 5 years of Military Service as on 1st August, and whose assignment has been extended beyond 5 years and in whose case the Ministry of Defence issues a certificate that one can apply for civil employment and that one will be released on 3 month’s notice on the selection from the date of receipt of the offer of appointment.

Up to a maximum of 10 years in the case of:-
(a) Low Vision
(b) Hearing Impaired (Partially deaf) and
(c) Locomotor disability (sub-category: Leprosy cured and Acid attack)


Educational Qualification for Indian Forest Service Exam

One must possess a Bachelor Degree in any of the following subjects namely, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology, Agriculture, Forestry, and Engineering.

One who appears at the degree examination with prescribed subjects can also vie for a position. One must clear the written part of the examination and must submit proof of passing the exam together with an application.

Note: All IFS or IFoS candidates must have graduated from universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament, or deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act of 1956.
