List the compulsory and optional subjects for UPSC mains exam

UPSC Main Exam includes 9 descriptive type papers.

1-Any language defined in constitution of India
2-english
3-essay
4-general study
5-general study
6-optional subject-1
7-optional subject-1
8-optional subject-2
9-optional subject-2

In these papers first two papers is optional paper means its marks are not measured but you have to get minimum marks in that paper also otherwise one will be unsuccessful in the main exam. The other seven papers are compulsory and its marks are considered in the final merit list. Selected candidate will go for an interview

Ok roy I got your problem very well. So here I am giving you necessary details about the exam pattern of UPSC.

Preliminary Examination:

It will comprise of two compulsory papers of 200 marks each.

Main Examination: there will be 9 Papers for this

The written examination will consist of the following papers:

Qualifying Papers:

Paper : A - (One of the Indian Language to be selected by the candidate from the Languages included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution). . It is of 300 Marks)

Paper : B English 300 Marks

Paper-1 Essay 250
Paper-2 General Studies–I (Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society) 250
Paper-3 General Studies –II (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations) 250
Paper-4 General Studies –III (Technology, Economic Development, Bio‐diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management) 250
Paper-5 General Studies –IV (Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude) 250
Paper-6 Optional Subject – Paper 1 250
Paper-7 Optional Subject – Paper 2 250
Sub Total (Written test) 1750
Personality Test 275
Grand Total 2025
