Re: Time Limit For Cat Exam

The Common Admission Test is a computer based test held in India. The test scores a candidate on the bases of Quantitative Ability (QA), Verbal Ability (VA) and Reading Comprehension (RC), Data Interpretation (DI) and Logical Reasoning (LR).

There is no fixed pattern for exam. The exam pattern keeps changing every year.
The total duration of the test is 180 minutes or 3 hours.

Each section of the test has a time limit of 1 hour each.

The test takers cannot switch between the sections and have to attend the test in a particular order. The order of the sections is-

VRC
DI & LR, and
QA

Test Duration and Pattern CAT:

Duration of the examination has been increased to 180 minutes from the existing limit of 170 minutes.

Quantitative Aptitude (QA) and Verbal And Reading Comprehension (VRC) will consist of 34 questions each and Data Interpretation And Logical Reasoning (DILR) will have 32 questions.

Some questions in each section may not be of multiple choice types.
Instead, direct answers are to be typed on the screen.
Facility for the first time given to use of basic on-screen calculator for computation
Candidates will be allotted exactly 60 minutes for answering questions in each section and they cannot switch from one section to another while answering questions in a section.

Test Duration & Pattern (CAT):

Section No. of Questions Duration
Quantitative Ability 34 3 hrs
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning 32
Verbal And Reading Comprehension 34
Total 100 3 hrs

Marking Scheme:

For Non-MCQs,
+3 marks for ‘correct answer’
No marks(or negative marks) for ‘wrong or no attempt’.
The scoring scheme for multiple-choice questions (MCQ's) is:
+3 for correct answer
-1 for incorrect answer
No marks are given or deducted for un-attempted questions.
