Nagaland University is a Central University established in the state of Nagaland by an Act of Parliament by the Government of India in 1989. It was established in 1994. the University is approved by UGC. Department of Sociology The Department of Sociology, under the School of Social Science, Nagaland University was established on 6th September 1997 with 25 students’ intake capacity in the initial stage. At present, the department have 108 (53+55) PG students and 17 registered Ph.D. scholars having 7 faculty members and 2 ministerial staff Currently Dr. Toshimenla Jamir, Associate Professor is heading the department. Apart from PG programme, the department is running two UGC sponsored centres namely Tribal Research Centre and Centre for Gandhian Studies and Research. The Thrust Areas of the Department are:- Change and Development Gender Studies Research Methodology Faculty members- Toshimenla Jamir Associate Professor & Head of Department Prof. A.Lanunungsang Ao Professor Prof. Kshetri Rajendra Singh Professor Prof. Chandra Kanta Gogoi Professor Temjensosang Assistant Professor Athungo Ovung Assistant Professor Pitheli K.
