The Department of Sociology was established in the year 1999 under the aegis the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, University of Jammu, Jammu.

The Department was set up as an interdisciplinary centre of higher learning and academic excellence.

The Department offers Post Graduate Programme through semester system.
