The Madurai Kamaraj University was set up in 1965. The area has full-grown into a good looking University township with an intensive space of concerning 750 acres and named as Palkalai Nagar.

Madurai Kamaraj University fee structure is a statutory University in hand and funded by the govt. of Tamil Nadu with the recognition of UGC.

The University has twenty colleges, seventy five Departments, 14 centers, seventy seven related schools and nineteen approved institutions.
