The College of Agriculture, Vellayani was established in May, 1955 and continues as the Centre of undergraduate and Post Graduate education.

The Kerala Agricultural University was set up in the palace building belonging to the royal family of erstwhile Travancore-Cochin State.


The Department of Plant Pathology was established as a statutory department of the College of Horticulture in 1972.

Initially UG courses were offered. M.Sc(Ag) and Ph.D programmes in Plant Pathology were started in1976 and 1983 respectively
