A field look into station was set up in 1984 at Kumta a town on the west bank of Karnataka in Uttara Kannada area, It is around 400 km north-west of Bangalore, 6 5 km west of Sirsi,, 200 km north of Mangalore and 70 km south of Goa. This place is open both by street and rail.

Look into staff and understudies of Energy and wetlands Research Group at Center for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science work in the zones of tropical soggy woods biology and administration, biological history, natural effect appraisal, human environment and beach front zone administration.

Offices incorporate a library, PCs, climate station, fundamental research facility gear and a herbarium of the Uttara Kannada greenery. Two bikes are kept up for transport. Guests are obliged at lodgings in Kumta.

Ongoing research includes:

Biodiversity, mapping of threatened, endangered as well as endemic species of flora and fauna in Uttara Kannada district

5. Energy: Renewable energy – hydro, wind, bio and solar

2. Mapping of energy sources and demand
3. Demand side management
4. Decentralised Integrated energy plan
6. Eco-development: Energy efficient devices, etc.
7. Ecological modelling
8. Livelihood aspects in estuaries
9. Coastal ecosystem, mangroves
10. Socio-economic aspects
11. Environmental Impact assessment
