Government of India, Ministry of Science and Technology established the Department of Biotechnology in 1986 to give a new drive to the development of the field of modern biology and biotechnology in India. Eligibility One should hold a Ph.D. degree in Science, Engineering or M.D. or M.S. degree in any area of medicine with research interests in Biotechnology and Life Sciences and a good academic record. One who has already submitted the Ph.D./M.D./M.S., thesis is also eligible to apply. One should preferably be below the age of 40 years, and 45 years in case of women candidates. Persons already employed are also eligible to apply. However, theapplications should be routed through the employers. Period of Fellowship The fellowship is awarded for a period of two years. However, in some cases, based on the progress of research, and overall importance of the project of the Fellows, the fellowship extended upto 5 years. The evaluation and recommendation for the extension of the fellowship is made by the host institution as per the internal guidelines. The award of fellowships normally starts from 1st April or 1st October in a Calendar year. Accordingly, the selection of Fellows made twice a year. Number of Fellowships Up to 75 Fellowships are awarded every year. Depending on the success and utility of the programme, the number of fellowships to be awarded per year would be revised. Mode of Selection One is selected based on the C.V. and performance in the interview. The interview is held at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and candidates called for interview is paid II class railway (non-AC)/bus fare by the shortest route from the home town. If one accepts the fellowship, one must join the host Institution/ University within a month's time. IISc RA 2016 |
