How to Get into Delhi School of Economics

Can you tell me the process of getting admission in Economics in Delhi School of Economics as I want to take admission in it?

Delhi School of Economics is affiliated to the University of Delhi which offers various post graduate programmes. It conducts its own entrance exam for the admission to post graduate courses in Economics. There are two papers and Students are required to attend one of the papers only as per their choice.

Eligibility

Those graduates who have 50% of aggregate marks in Economics or graduates or post graduates with 60% of aggregate marks in any subjects can apply for the entrance test.

Those candidates who belong to reserve category require minimum pass mark in graduation or post graduation to apply for the entrance exam.

Exam pattern

There are two papers, (1) option A and (2) option B among which candidates can opt according to their choice.

Option A is for candidates who have graduation in Economics/ Commerce or related subjects.

Students who have graduated in Mathematics/ Engineering/ and related subjects can select option B.

Candidates can also select either of the options irrespective of their academic background if they are confident to attend the exam. The test will be of 3 hours duration.

DSE entrance option A consists of 2 sections:
Section 1: 20 multiple choice questions. Marking scheme: +1 for the correct answer, -1/3 for a wrong answer, 0 for un attempted question
Section 2: 40 multiple choice questions. Marking scheme: +2 for the correct answer, -2/3 for a wrong answer, 0 for un attempted question

Option A

The DSE entrance exam is test of knowledge of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Probability, Statistics, Econometrics, Game Theory, Mathematics and Logical Ability.

Option B

Graduation mathematics is usually required for Entrance Exam in Economics

Delhi University Department School of Economics MA Entrance Test is conducted every year by Delhi University.

Eligibility for DU DSE MA

Candidates need to appear for the entrance examination and for this they are required to pass B.A. (Hons.) in Economics from the University of Delhi with 50% marks in the aggregate.

Candidates who have passed from B.A. (Hons.) / B.Sc. (Hons) Economics of any other Indian University recognized by the University of Delhi with 50% or more marks in the aggregate are eligible.

Universities where the B.A./B.Sc. (Hons.) Economics degree includes courses other than Economics; the course is treated as an Honours course only if it contains minimum 55% marks of the total marks in respect of papers in economics.

Candidates must have pass in first Class with 60% or more marks in Graduate/Post-graduate degree in any other subject from the University of Delhi or any Indian University recognized by the University of Delhi.

Foreign Nationals can take admission either by taking the department’s Entrance Examination or by seeking admission in individual basis by submitting their GRE Scores along with recommendations from two academic referees.

Age Limit for DU DSE MA
Candidates applying for DU DSE MA to pursue MA in Economics are required to have an age limit of 22 years.

Important Dates in DU DSE MA (Tentative) 2015

• Application forms will be available from the month of March, 2015.
• Last date of Submission of form is in the 3rd week of April 2015.
• Date of Entrance test is in the month of May, 2015.
• Publication of Result will be in May, 2015.
