“Pakistan and the Modern World” is an address by Liaquat Ali Khan attheUniversity of Kansas.He was the first Prime Minister of Pakistan whovisitedAmerica in 1950. His purpose was to introducePakistan to people of America andWestern World.In his address, he justified the demand of a separate homeland by theMuslims of India. He gave many reasons in this respect. Firstly, he said, inBritish India, there lived one hundred millionMuslims along with three hundredmillion others, mostly Hindus The Muslim feared that if they got freedom fromBritish, they would be underpermanent domination of Hindus . Secondly, theMuslims
differed from theHindus in every sphere of life, whatever; it wasreligious, social or economic. Thirdly, the Hindus believed in caste system,whereas, theMuslims believed in equality of human beings. Fourthly, the Muslims believed in the rights of private inherent laws of everyone, whereas the
Hindus didn’t. FifthlyMuslims feared that under Hindu domination they wouldnot be able to promote their own culture and to practice the golden principles of Islam. Sixthly, theSub-Continent was vast enough that it could be divided intotwo independent countries.
