The department of Psychology at the University of Mysore has the distinction of being the second oldest Department in the country. Dr. M.V.Gopalaswamy, after obtaining his Ph.D. in London under Dr. Charles Spearman, established this Department in 1924.

Dr. B. Kuppuswamy, a renowned social psychologist, and Prof. B. Krishnan, known for his work in the field of Indian Psychology, led the department for a long time to its present glory. The Department was offering M.A. Degree in Psychology till the year 1998. Since most of the syllabi have now been revised in line with the tenets of science with a greater emphasis on practicum, the degree offered since 1998 is M.Sc. in Psychology.

Graduation with Psychology B.A./B.Sc. with Psychology as a Major or Optional subject OR M.Ed OR B.Sc./M.Sc.( Speech & Hearing) with 60% in Psychology

2. M.phil. in Learning Disability
Two semesters
Master’s Degree in Psychology/Special Education/Education/Speech Language Pathology/Speech and Hearing/Audiology/Linguistics/Human Development/ Behavioral Science/Medicine/Neurology/Master’s Degree in any subject with B.Ed/Master’s Degree with one-year Diploma or Certificate Course in Clinical Linguistics/Dyslexia/Learning Disability from recognised University/Institution.

3. Diploma in Counselling and Health Psychology
Two semesters
M.A./M.Sc. in Psychology/M.S.W./M.B.A./M.A. Sociology/Human Development/ M.Sc.Nursing/M.Ed ( including specialEducation)/M.Sc.Speech & Hearing/M.A./M.Sc. in Criminology/M.A. in Philosophy/M.B.B.S.,B.A.M.S.,and other related Medical Professionals (with minimum 50% marks)
