The University of Calcutta is also known as Calcutta University. It is a public state university which is situated in Kolkata West Bengal, India. this university was established on 24 January 1857.

Admission Criteria for B.Ed. Course, 2014-15
Admission to the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) course will follow the rules and regulations set by the NCTE, the State Government and University of Calcutta:

1. Candidates who has graduate degree
(Pass/General/Honours / Major) or Post graduate degree (with 50% marks in aggregate in case of candidates belonging to General Category, 45 % marks for Differently Abled Category, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Categories).

2. Reservation of seats for B.Ed. admission (only for fresher category)

i) Calcutta University…………….......95%
ii) Other University ………………………..5%

3. Reservation of seats for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Differently Abled will be as follows

i) Scheduled Caste ………………………22%
ii) Scheduled Tribe …………………………6%
iii) Differently Abled ……………………….3%

4. Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe candidates from the other states will not get the reservation facilities for SC/ST.

5. Deputed Candidates shall be selected only on the basis of period of approved service mentioned in Clause 8.

6. Age limit:
For fresher students (General Category) ……………………………. 40 Years (as on 30th June)
For deputed students (General Category) ………………………….. 45 Years (as on 30th June)
Age limit is relax able for maximum 5 (five) years for students belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Differently Abled Categories.

7. Fresher candidates will be selected on the basis of Academic Merit only.

Weightage given for Academic Performance and the calculation of grade marks are as follows:
i. (a) Ph.D./ D.Phil. ---------------------------------------------------- 05

(b) M.Phil. ----------------------------------------------------------- 03
ii. Post Graduate M.A./M.Sc./M.Com. ----------------------------- 35
iii. (a) Degree with Hon./Spl. Hon./Major subject ---------------- 30
Or
(b) Degree with Pass/General ----------------------------------- 10
iv. H.S (10+2), or its equivalent -------------------------------------- 20
v. Madhyamik Pariksha or its Equivalent -------------------------- 10
Total: 100 -------------------------------
