The Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas CTARA IIT Bombay is gearing itself to face the challenges posed by these changes, through research projects as well as new academic and training programs. CTARA now has an M. Tech. Program in Technology and Development. M. Tech. Program Eligibility: Bachelor’s degrees in engineering, technology, architecture, agriculture, or with master’s degree in physical sciences or agriculture can apply. Admission is possible under three categories: 1) TA Category (Two years full time) : Valid GATE score is required First Class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) in BE/B.Tech/ B.Arch. in any branch or M.Sc. degree in any discipline can apply 2) PA/RA Category (3 years full time) : Valid GATE score is required First Class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) in BE/B.Tech/B.Arch. in any branch or M.Sc degree in any discipline can apply Students are selected under specific sponsored projects such as NCPRE. 3) Sponsored Candidates : Candidates without GATE score having two years relevant experience in development related work and appropriate qualification are encouraged to apply under sponsored category Statement of Purpose (SOP): Candidates applying to CTARA’s M.Tech (T&D) program are required to submit the statement of purpose (SOP) along with the application. Statement of Purpose (SOP) is your opportunity to share with the admission committee your thoughts and feeling about Postgraduate studies at IIT Bombay including your preparation for the same. Written test: Candidates short-listed on the basis of the GATE score are invited to appear for the written test. The test is compulsory and is common for all candidates, irrespective of their discipline or the category in which they apply (TA/RA/PS/IS/SW etc). The test will be designed to assess general knowledge, numeracy, reading comprehension and writing skills (and not necessarily only the disciplinary knowledge) of the candidates and awareness of development-related issues. Interview: Candidates short-listed on the basis of the performance in the written test are invited to appear for the interview. Selection: The final selection would be based on the qualifications, GATE score, SOP (statement of purpose – to be submitted along with the application), written test and interview.
