Central Connecticut State University is a regional, comprehensive public university in New Britain, Connecticut. Founded in 1849 as Connecticut Normal School, CCSU is Connecticut's oldest publicly funded university. Elihu Burritt Library was opened in 1972. The Library proper contains 97,375 square feet of assignable space and has seating capacity for over 800 people. The Library holds over 730,000 bound volumes, including 114,000 periodicals. There are 557,000 microforms, including 18,000 reels of microfilm, and over 15,000 items in media format. It provides access to 55,000 current online and print journal subscriptions. The Library provides on-site and remote access to over 200 research databases in a variety of disciplines. The Library at CCSU consists of eight departments and is headed by a director who reports to the Provost.
