Yes definitely after completion of B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering you are eligible to join Merchant Navy.

Indian Maritime University holds Common Entrance Test (CET) to take applicants for various courses.

Eligibility Criteria
Following are the eligibility criteria:

1) DNS - 1 Year
A) B.tech applicants with 50 % in English.

B) B.Sc (Any of these Physics/ Mathematics/ Chemistry/
Electronics) passed applicants with 55 % marks.
C) 60% (PCM) and 50% (English) in 12th class

2) . B.Sc- 3 years- 60% (PCM) and 50% (English) in 12th Class. For B.Sc in Ship Building and Repair only 50% in PCM.

3) B Tech Marine Engineering/Naval Architecture - 60%(PCM) and 50% (English) in 12th Class. 2nd Year lateral entry applicants should have pursued Marine or Mechanical or Naval Architecture or Electrical in diploma

There is no post in Merchant Navy which could use your Computer engineering skill. Nobody makes softwares onboard and most jobs are physical oriented.

You can join merchant navy on the basis of 10+2. So you will be totally ignoring your Computer engineering degree then.

If you want to join Indian navy then firstly complete your graduation the appear CDS exam. when you are appearing final year of your degree then you can also appear CDS exam.Combined Defence Services Exams (CDS): this is the exam of defence sector

Educational Qualification for join Merchant Navy as Officer :
Merchant Navy can be joined after 10th as seafarer after qualifying pre sea courses or after 12th as an officer through various degree or diploma courses in mainly two specialized fields, Nautical (Deck) and Marine engineering. Unmarried Female and Male candidate are eligible.

The courses that prepared a person to join Merchant navy are as follow.

1 year course for Graduate Mechanical Engineers
2 year course for Diploma Holders
3 month course for Deck Cadets for (10+2) students
Marine Engineering for (10+2) students, 4 year degree course
Nautical Science for (10+2) students, 3 year duration course

Qualification to join as utility hand or Petty Officers (Fitters)

The qualification for joining the merchant navy as petty officers or utility officers include

Personal Survival Technique (PST)
Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (FPFF)
Elementary First Aid (EFA)
Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities (PSSR)


Age Limit: 16-25 Years
