Semester 1

Four Theory courses (100 marks each) and corresponding practical courses (50 marks each)

MS.MIC. 1.02: Microbial Genetics I

MS.MIC. 1.03: Microbial Biochemistry I

MS.MIC.1.04: Medical Microbiology and Immunology I

Semester 2

Four Theory courses (100 marks each) and corresponding practical courses (50 marks each)

MS.MIC.1.01: Cell biology and Virology II

MS.MIC. 1.02: Microbial Genetics II

MS.MIC. 1.03: Microbial Biochemistry II

MS.MIC.1.04: Medical Microbiology and Immunology II

Semester 3 & 4 ( yet in the draft stage)

Four Theory courses (100 marks each) and corresponding practical courses (50 marks each)

In semester 3 students have to do a research project for a period of 3 months at various research centers/ National Institutes like BARC, NIRRH, TIFR, NCL, ACTREC, NIO etc

St. Xavier's College is located in Mumbai, India. It is one of the most prestigious liberal arts colleges in India. The college was established by German Jesuits in 1869.

M.Sc. in Microbiology admission

Microbiology Department offers a two years Master’s Programme in Microbiology affiliated to the University of Mumbai.

M.Sc is an autonomous programme structured as a four semester credit based system with continuous internal assessment and end semester.

Selection Process

Admission to the course will be purely merit based in accordance with the marks obtained in Microbiology at the T. Y. B. Sc examination .

Applications for the course will be done Online.

50% of seats are reserved for Catholic Minority students.

There is also a reservation for Special category students and for Backward Class students.

The rest of the seats are for students from the General Category.

Eligibility-

The B.Sc. degree examination of Mumbai university or degree of any other university recognized as equivalent thereto in Microbiology.

Theory Courses : 2 Continuous Internal Assessment and 1 End semester evaluation per course per semester.

Practical Courses: 1 Continuous Internal Assessment and 1 End semester evaluation per course per semester.

Evaluation of the semester 3 project is based on the dissertation submitted, a presentation and viva-voce.
