The University of Punjab has a Zoology Department. The department of Zoology is one of the oldest and well-established departments in North India.

The department was shifted from Hoshiarpur to present campus at Chandigarh in July 1960.

The Department has one of the most highly trained Faculty of Zoology comprising of 5 Professors, 3 Associate Professor, 17 Assistant Professors and 4 Lecturers (+2 contract teachers) in the country.
