Re: CGPA To Percentage Conversion In Iit Bombay

The IIT Bombay is provides its result in CGPA format. Candidates may convert their CGPA to Percentage after following a table:

IIT Bombay is using a '10 point CGPA scale' known or use 'percentage marks'.
Grade Point Average (GPA) is an internationally recognized score which is used to find the average result of all grades achieved for your course.

The CGPA or Cumulative Grade Point Average is a comparative score based on ALL student's performance.

CGPA to %age criteria:
Multiply the CGPA with 9.5 to get the indicative percentage. Example: CGPA of 7.8 equates to 74.1%.

9.5 is the most commonly used multiplying factor but some colleges/companies follow 10 or their own multiplying factor.

There is no single formula that is fully accurate, but if you are applying to a university that requires you to convert your score and the conversion guideline is not given, then using the following conversion chart makes sense:

76 to 100% marks = 7.6 to 10 CGPA = 3.6 to 4.0 GPA = A 'US grade equivalent' = Distinction.

61 to 75% marks = 6.1 to 7.5 CGPA = 3.1 to 3.5 GPA = A- 'US grade equivalent' = First Division.

51 to 60% marks = 5.1 to 6.0 CGPA = 2.6 to 3.0 GPA = B/B+ 'US grade equivalent' = Second Division.

40 to 50% marks = 4.0 to 5.0 CGPA = 2.0 to 2.5 GPA = C/C+ 'US grade equivalent' = Third Division.

Less than 40% marks = Less than 4.0 CGPA = Less than 2.0 GPA = F 'US grade equivalent' = Fail.
