Re: Western Carolina University Wind Ensemble

The Western Carolina University Wind Ensemble will present its first ever concert of the fall at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, in the Fine and Performing Arts Centre.

The ensemble will be held by John T. West, WCU director of bands. Titled “Tangos, Ballets and Pavanes,” the free concert will also feature those types of dance music, as well as selections from the repertoire of the wind band, West said.

The Western University Wind Ensemble will present a concert which will feature faculty soloists on Thursday, Nov. 30.

The program will present 7 of Western’s music faculty members in 5 different features on the program. Terri Armfield, assistant professor, will play the English horn and Amy Cherry, visiting instructor, will play the trumpet, performing Aaron Copeland’s well-known work “Quiet City.” Shannon Thompson, associate professor, will play the clarinet on “Liquid Ebony,” a recent work by the American composer Dana Wilson.

“This concert is special in that it showcases the wonderful colleagues on the music faculty,” WCU is fortunate to have nationally known artists as faculty members, and think the audience will be impressed with their astonishing abilities. This program will offer something for each & every taste, from Baroque to modern.”

The concert is free as well as open to the public. For more information, please contact the Western music department.
