Panjab University is a public collegiate university originated in 1882, but was established in 1947 making it one of the oldest universities in India. The university has been recognised by the UGC as the "University with Potential for Excellence in Bio-Medical Sciences" with facilities for Stem Cell Research and Drug Development. It is affiliated by University Grants Commission (UGC), National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Ranking Internationally, it was ranked 801-1000 in the QS World University Rankings of 2018. The same rankings ranked it 301-350 in Asia and 201-250 among BRICS nations.
