The Allahabad University is occupied an esteemed place among the universities of India for over a century.

The university was established on 23rd September 1887. It is the fourth oldest university of India after Calcutta, Bombay and Madras University.

The affiliation of the S. P. Mukherjee Government Degree College with the University has yet to be finalised because of the objections raised by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
