Trichology is the scientific study of hair and scalp disorders which included hair thinning, male and female pattern baldness, seborrhea dermatitis, scalp eczema & psoriasis, scalp itching, premature graying, head lice, hair breakage & damage.

It is derived form the Greek word ‘Tricho’ meaning ‘hair’. Trichology deals with hair, its anatomy, growth and diseases and thus involves in-depth study of chemistry, biology, anatomy and physiology. With the popularization of paramedical sciences, this field has gained much importance in the recent years.

Hair, as tissue of excretion, is a perfect gauge for physical conditions and acts as a barometer for the body systems. The importance of hair in one’s life can be realized by the fact that cause of death of a person can be diagnosed by the analysis of a single hair.

In order to be an expert in the area of Trichology, knowledge must be gained in the areas of the causes, symptoms, diagnosis and prognosis of specific hair and scalp disorders.
