Tamil Nadu Fisheries University (TNFU) was set up under Tamil Nadu Fisheries University Act, 2012. The college offers Bachelor and Master courses in Fisheries Science, Post Graduate Diploma courses in Fish Quality Management and Research courses in Aquaculture, Fisheries Biology and Capture Fisheries, Fisheries Resources and Economics and Fish Processing Technology.

The Directorate of Research is co-ordinating and observing the examination exercises of personnel of the Tamil Nadu Fisheries University, Nagapattinam. The Directorate has linkages with the State and Central Fisheries Research Institutes for the trading of examination advancements in fisheries.
