The M.Sc. Nursing Programme offered by the St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences is of two years duration leading to a Master’s Degree in Nursing by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. It is designed to enable the graduates with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing to acquire greater knowledge and understanding in order to function efficiently and effectively as clinicians, educators and managers, and to assume professional leadership. Admission Requirements a) Only women candidates can apply. b) One must have completed B.Sc. Nursing Degree of Rajiv Gandhi/Bangalore University or any of the other University considered to an equivalent by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. c) One year's experience, (after passing B.Sc. (N) Exam should be in any clinical/teaching areas, either in a hospital or in a community. d) Preference is given to one who has at least 6 months of experience in the area of clinical speciality that one wishes to select for Post-Graduation. e) Minimum one year experience prior or after Post Basic B. Sc Nursing. f) GNM Course Registration with the State Nursing Council.55% marks in the first attempt at the B.Sc./P.B. B. Sc Nursing Examination. For SC/ST of Karnataka State only 50% Duration of the Course The course consists of 2 academic years. Clinical Specialisation Medical Surgical Nursing -10 seats Community Health Nursing - 6 seats. OBG Nursing - 6 Seats Paediatric Nursing - 6 seats. Psychiatric Nursing -5 seats Candidates may opt for any of these specializations. The final decision of granting the option lies with the College. Educational Objectives The following are the main objectives at the completion of the course the Post Graduates are expected to have: The ability to give quality care to patients in the clinical areas (both in general and specialised) based on complete problem solving approach. The ability to function as effective educators and managers with the application of modern concepts and technology Leadership abilities to initiate and bring about changes in all areas of nursing practice The ability to critically value and use the findings of research for better practices and to engage in research activities Interesting continuing education and contribute to professional advancement.
