The Parents and Friends Association (PFA) is a charity and support organisation for the Special Support Centre (SSC) which is based at Desmond Anderson School in Crawley, West Sussex. Originally it was set up in November 2008. The Parents and Friends Association (PFA) is a fundraising charity and support organisation for the Special Support Centre (SSC) which is based at Desmond Anderson School in Crawley, West Sussex. It is dedicated to the education and development of children with autism throughout the area.\ Autism is a lifelong developmental condition that affects the way a person communicates and relates to people around them. People with autism vary greatly but many have difficulties with everyday social interaction. It is dedicated to the education and development of children with autism throughout the area. Originally set up in November 2008, the SSC PFA was granted charitable status in July 2009; charity number 1130557. Aims of SSC PFA; The aims of the association are to advance the education of pupils in the Special Support Centre, by: 1. Developing effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the Centre 2. Assisting in the provision of facilities for education at the Centre, not normally supplied by the local education authority Social interactions: Social interaction (difficulty with social relationships, for example appearing aloof and indifferent to other people); Social communication (difficulty with verbal and non-verbal communication, for example not really under-standing the meaning of gestures, facial expressions or tone of voice); and Flexibility in thinking and behaving (difficulty in the development of play and imagination, for example having a limited range of imaginative activities, possibly copied and pursued rigidly and repetitively).
