Can you tell me how to get into the flying branch of IAF (Indian Air Force) through Short Service Commissions (SSC) as a Pilot?

If one want join the Indian Air Force as a Pilot, one will have to be a part of the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force. One can choose to join the Flying Branch after Class 12th or even after graduation.

If one chooses to join the Indian Air Force right after Class 12th exams, one will have to appear and qualify in the National Defence Academy (NDA) Examinations.

If one chooses to join the Indian Air Force after graduation, one can get in through any of the following options:
- Appear and qualify in the Combined Defence Services Examinations (CDSE).
- Join the Indian Air Force through Short Service Commissions (SSC).
- Enter through the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Special Entry scheme.

SSC (Short Service Commission)
One can apply for Short Service Commission which extends for a maximum of 14 years of service through AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test).

This test is qualifying in nature, on passing AFCAT you have to appear for SSB and then PABT and Medicals. In this entry, women can also apply.

Age
19 to 23 years and 25 years for those holding Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA

Nationality
Indian

Gender
Men and Women

Educational Qualifications
Graduates (3 Year Course) in any discipline from a recognized University who have attained minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and have Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level OR BE / B Tech (4 Year Course) from a recognized university with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together.

Final Year students are also eligible to apply, provided do not have any backlog at the time of SSB Testing and produce Degree certificate issued by the University as per the date stipulated in the advertisement.
