Re: RRC Amravati University
Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola was instituted on 20th October, 1969 with its head-quarter at Akola. This Agricultural University was named after the illustrious son of Vidarbha Dr. Panjabrao (alias Bhausaheb) Deshmukh, who was the Minister for Agriculture,Govt. of India. As you want to know about the Regional Research Centre, Amravati The center was in progress as an experimental farm in 1953, under the Community Development Programme. Later on, some research schemes on crops like cotton, sorghum, groundnut, etc. Were started by ICAR, New Delhi. In 1958, these schemes were amalgamated to form a Project for strengthening of Regional Research on Cotton, Oilseeds and Millets (PIRRCOM), which continued till it was handed over to the State Department of Agriculture in 1965. The same was then transferred to the State Agriculture University in 1968 and consequently to Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola in 1969.
