Railway Engineering Course by Indian Railways

Can you tell me if there is any Railway Engineering Course which is conducted by Indian Railways as I want to apply for it?

Yes, there is a railway engineering course which is conducted by the Indian Railway. To take admission in the course one has to clear for SCRA (Special Class Railway Apprentice) entrance examination.

After clearing the entrance exam applicants have to undergo four year training in Mechanical Engineering. After the training one can join as Indian Railway Services of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) Officers in Indian Railways. The age limit for the entrance exam is 17-21 years on August 1 of year of exam.

The Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE) is a technical school and commenced training Mechanical Officers for Indian. It provides theoretical and practical training for a 4 year undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering as well as professional courses to officers and supervisors of Indian Railways. There are also courses for non-railway organizations and foreign railways.

Diploma in Rail Transport and Management
Correspondence course conducted by Institute of Rail Transport, New Delhi.
The duration of the course is one year from May - June every year.

Diploma in Transport Economics and Management
Correspondence course conducted by Institute of Rail Transport, New Delhi.
The duration of the course is one year, from January - February every year.

Diploma in Multi-Modal Transport [Containerization] and Logistics Management
Correspondence course conducted by Institute of Rail Transport, New Delhi.
The duration of the course is one year, from March - April every year.

Diploma in Railway Engineering
Conducted by the Institution of Permanent Way Engineers
One year Correspondence Course comprises of two semesters of 6 months each.

• Mandatory courses for serving officers viz.
Senior Professional Development Programme of 3 weeks duration for IRSME Officers with 8-12 years of service.

Refresher course of 2 weeks duration for IRSME Officers with 1-3 years of service.

Integrated course of 10 weeks duration for recently promoted group B officers.

• Special courses in relevant topics, such as :
Accident management course, Breakdown cranes, New technologies, Diesel loco reliability, Diesel refresher courses etc.
