Re: Punjab University NSUI

Panjab University Campus Student Council (PUCSC) elections were held on September 6, 2019. SFS (Students for Society), SOI (Students’ Organisation of India), the NSUI (National Students’ Union of India) and ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) are the main political parties in the Election.

Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place for the elections, which witnessed as many as 16153 students voting at 167 polling booths in the PU campus.

As per the advisory issued by PU, students have been advised to reach their respective Departments by 9:30 am and no entry will be allowed after 10:15 am on the Election Day.

To ensure peaceful and fair elections in PU and affiliated colleges, Chandigarh Police has deployed 1008 personnel including 8 gazetted officers (GO), 8 SHO, 18 Inspectors and 979 NGOs/ORs.

Chetan Chaudhary of the Student Organisation of India (SOI) was elected as the new president of the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) while the NSUI bagged the rest of the three seats in the PU elections that saw 62% polling — the same as last year.

Chetan (23) polled 2,792 of the total 9,882 valid votes, defeating Paras Rattan of the ABVP by 479 votes. SOI, the student wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), had won the top post in PU only once in 2015, when its alliance candidate Jasmeen Kang defeated Baljinder Singh of the PUSU-ABVP alliance.

NSUI bagged the three posts- Rahul Kumar with 3,520 votes was elected the vice-president, Tegbir Singh (3,188 votes) the secretary and Manpreet Singh Mahal (3,796 votes) the joint-secretary. The NSUI was the only party that fought elections on all four posts of the student council without forging alliance with anyone.
