The GATE is a Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It is an all-India examination in various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science.

GATE is conducted every year by one of the Indian Institute of Science or Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee).

The GATE score of a candidate is used for admissions to post-graduate programs like Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Doctor of Philosophy) in reputed institutes of India.
