All questions carry equal marks.

1. Explain with reference to the context any three of the following passagesadding critical notes where necessary:

(a) moon and stars
were shining o’er my head. I was alone,
And seemed to be a trouble to the peace
That dwelt among them.
(b) With sloping masts and dipping prow,
As who pursued with yell and blow
Still treads the shadow of his foe.
And forward bends his head,
The ship drove fast, loud roared the blast,
And southward aye we fled.
