The vision of NITK or National Institute of Technology, Karnataka is to facilitate transformation of students into good human beings, responsible citizens and competent professionals, focusing on assimilation, generation and dissemination of knowledge.

It was founded in 1960 as KREC while today; it is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance.

It offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Engineering, Science and Management. The institute has 14 departments and 11 support centres.

It was ranked among the top 8 university all across India according to the India today magazine. Also according to outlook India it was ranked among the top 9 university all across the India in 2016
