Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda is a type of public university. It was formed in the year 1881. It is located in Vadodara, India. It became university in 1949. It is a type of teaching and residential university and the only university in Gujarat whose medium of instruction is English for all courses. It has its origins in the Baroda College formed in 1881 by Baroda State. The main building which houses the faculty of Arts was planned by Robert Fellowes Chisholm (1840–1915) in Indo-Saracenic architecture style, in a combination of Indian and Byzantine arches and domes in brick and polychrome stone. The main dome on the convocation hall was modelled after the great dome of the Gol Gumbaz in Bijapur.
