The Department of Library Science (now called Department of Library and Information Science) was established in the year 1972, with the objective of providing education and training in the discipline of Library and Information Science.

Mission of the Department
To educate and train students in order to undertake challenges emerging from current technological developments in Library and Information Science.
To support and advance education, research and service mission of the University by educating students, furthering knowledge and contributing our expertise to advance humankind’s progress through information.
To prepare students to undertake professional and leadership roles in dynamic library and information environment.

The Department is now located in a separate building adjacent to the Tagore Library.
