The purpose of Kizimbani Agricultural Training Institute is to build the capacity of Agriculture, Livestock and Environment in order to offer better technical advice to the farming community in the rural areas. Specific objectives • To educate men and women for the purpose of fulfilling manpower requirements in the agricultural sector (block extension officers) • To get ready young men and women for self-employment • To offer technical advisory services to farmers in the field through village outreach programmes KATI training activities The institution offers general agriculture certificate course which focuses on the principles of crop production and animal husbandry and how to provide support to peasants. Initially the duration of the course was for three years but it was later reduced to two years. This was due to two main factors: i) high running cost and ii) changes to the curriculum. KATI target group, curriculum and progressive route For KATI certificate training: Candidates have to finish their ordinary level of education, passed key subjects of science and mathematics. Candidates who complete their certificate and advance level secondary education go to the mainland to pursue diploma courses in various specializations such as crop production, horticulture, human nutrition and animal production. The training programs also cater for in-service candidates who need to upgrade their skills and knowledge. Before the establishment of KATI, candidates intending to study certificate courses had to travel to the mainland.
